The oil spill at the terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) near Novorossiysk was the reason for checking the operators of seaport terminals. The directive came from the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Victoria Abramchenko, and now Rosprirodnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources) and Rostekhnadzor (Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision) are in the process of inspection.
The situation at the CPC terminal is of large scale. Initially, there was data on an oil spill over an area of about 200 m2 (about 12 m3), but later the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences provided other figures. According to these estimates, the oil slick covered 80 km2. A criminal case was opened related to the incident with the destruction of the internal cavity of the hydraulic compensator at the Water Treatment Plant from the supplier IMODCO (Monaco).
