In nine months of 2021, shipyards from all over the world have ordered nine times more tankers for the transportation of liquefied natural gas than in nine months of 2020. Analysts believe that this is not simply an increase in orders, but a mere recovery of orders after the pandemic.
Celsius Shipping ordered six tankers with a cargo capacity of 180,000 m3 contemporaneously; their delivery is expected in 2023-2024. Four vessels from this order are intended for the oil company BP. SCF has ordered two tankers with a cargo capacity of 174,000 m3 with the planned delivery of the vessel in 2023 and four gas carriers for NOVATEK. Sovcomflot has placed an order for a tanker for TotalEnergies.
International Energy Agency estimates a 10% increase in LNG maritime transport compared to 2020.
